A square graphic with a beige background and the Shel Maala logo in the top left. The header text at the top is: "Torah for Palestine Special Edition: More Than Affinity, Towards a Political Vision of Asian Jewish Identity, Tuesday, August 18th, 8-9:15 PM ET || 5 - 6:15 PM PT". Under the text are two circular speaker photos. On the left is a person with long hair smiling in front of green leaves, and on the right is a person with short hair and glasses smiling in front of a city skyline. Below the photos is the text: "Taught by Gen Slosberg 夏夜 and Matthew Hom 陳偉雄, organizers and political educators". Below that is the text "Join us for learning at this link: bit.ly/torah-for-palestine". In the lower left is a solidarity fist in Palestinian colors on a Torah scroll.

More Than Affinity

Gen Slosberg 夏夜 and Matthew Hom 陳偉雄, both organizers and political educators involved in Jewish and Asian American social justice work as well as Asian Jewish community building, are honored to partner with Shel Maala to offer a dynamic workshop rooted in a political analysis of Asian Jewish identities, shaped by both scholarship and lived experiences. We'll unpack the idea that Asian and Jewish communities have natural affinity towards each other, and illustrate how that affinity is constructed by historical and socioeconomic dynamics. Resisting what we call the Double Model Minority (myth and reality), we will root ourselves in the anti-racist, anti-fascist and anti-imperialist legacies that sustain our work for racial justice and Palestinian liberation. We will end with a vibrant discussion with participants in order to enrich our project through the experiences, ideas and feedback of community members.
